Leeds Health Stars 2011 - Staff excellence celebrated at Leeds Health Stars awards

NHS Leeds announced the winners of the Leeds Health Stars Awards yesterday, which showcased the fantastic achievements made in local health and social care services.

The Leeds Health Stars 2011 were open to anyone involved in NHS health and social care in Leeds, to share and celebrate excellence in innovation and improvement in these services. Applications were received from a wide range of organisations and projects, which have played an important role in supporting and transforming the lives of local people.

The awards ceremony, presented by the Director of Public Health for Leeds, Dr Ian Cameron, took place at Leeds Town Hall.

The five award categories were chosen to represent some of the key priorities for the NHS.

These categories and the winners are:

Success in Partnership Working Award: Testing Times (Yorkshire MESMAC)

Mental Health and Wellbeing Award: Your Health Matters
(Learning Disability Service, Leeds Partnerships Foundation Trust)

Improving Health and Reducing Inequalities Award: Intensive Family Support Service (NHS Leeds Community Healthcare)

Transforming Health and Social Care Services Award: Children’s Continence Care Pathway (NHS Leeds Community Healthcare)

Transforming Support Services Award: Next Generation Sequencing Service Development and Introduction (Yorkshire Regional Genetics Service)

Dr Cameron said: “The standard of nominations was exceptionally high. I am very proud of the tremendous achievements of all our health and social care staff, and our partners in the voluntary, community and faith sector.

“These teams are the basis for the success of health and social care in Leeds and for the excellent quality of care provided to patients and those who use services. Those teams short-listed for the Health Stars Awards are no exception and have worked extremely hard to ensure that the needs of our patients are at the centre of everything we do.”

The winners received a trophy and a certificate, and the runners up of each category were presented with a certificate.
