In July 2009 the Chief Executive of the NHS David Nicholson requested that all NHS Trusts review their arrangements to safeguard children and following the review Trusts were required to publish a declaration locally.
Work has been underway within NHS Leeds to ensure that we have everything in place to make sure that the children and young people of Leeds are safe. NHS Leeds Trust Board is in a position to declare compliance in all 13 key safeguarding areas. The Trust will continue to work with all of its partners and the local population to build on existing safeguarding arrangements.

NHS Leeds has responsibility for commissioning high quality health care for all patients in Leeds. However, we have particular duties for those patients who are less able to protect themselves from harm, neglect or abuse, for example, due to frailty or disability.
