People in Leeds are satisfied overall with the NHS services provided in the city according to the results of a satisfaction poll released by NHS Yorkshire and the Humber today.
The survey asked people from across the city for their views on a wide range of NHS services including GP care, ambulance services, accident and emergency and dentistry. The results show that 70% of respondents are either satisfied or highly satisfied with NHS care in the city and most have a positive perception of the NHS as a whole.
Respondents to the survey are especially satisfied with:
- The level of involvement patients have in decisions made about their care and the explanation of care and treatment provided by the ambulance service.
- Quality of GP care, involvement in decision-making and courtesy of GP surgery staff
- Their treatment at the accident and emergency departments. Individuals felt that staff were courteous and treated them with dignity and respect.
- The choice of where to receive their hospital care and the amount of time they waited for a hospital bed.
This is the second poll of its kind and provides a range of information about the experiences and perceptions of the people of Leeds. Results show that overall Leeds is in line with the regional average scores for satisfaction across all services except dentistry services where it falls slightly below average. NHS Leeds has already recognised and responded to the need to invest in local dentistry services, by investing over £2 million which will benefit a further 36,500 people across Leeds over the next three years.
NHS Leeds Chief Executive Christine Outram said, "We are pleased with the overall findings of the satisfaction poll which we believe show that the NHS in Leeds is providing high quality care to patients and other service users. We are determined to increase further the percentage of people with an overall positive experience of the local NHS. The findings will be used to help us to become even more patient-focused so we can provide and commission services that meet the needs of our local communities."
