Do you want to get involved or volunteer?

NHS Leeds is committed to involving and consulting with patients and the public and responding to the feedback we receive. This page tells you how you can get involved or volunteer at NHS Leeds.

How do I get involved?
NHS Leeds has a Patient, Carer and Public Involvement Network that offers you the opportunity to:-

  • be involved in decisions about planning and delivery of NHS services
  • use your skills and experience to influence services in the NHS
  • attend a Patient, Carer and Public Involvement network event held twice a year
  • receive regular information about the work of NHS Leeds

The network will support and provide opportunities for you to be involved in decisions affecting NHS services in Leeds. Some recent examples where patients, carers and the public were involved include:-

  • Interviewing and recruiting staff
  • judging the NHS Leeds Health Stars awards
  • taking part in a telephone interview and
  • attending a focus group about infertility treatment

How much time will it take?
The time you are able to give us is up to you. We will try and match whatever time you have to the different opportunities that are available. We value the time that people are able to give.

What support will I have?
NHS Leeds has a dedicated Patient and Public Involvement Team who will support you to have a voice in the development of health services. We can provide other types of support such as interpreters, sign language, child care or transport expenses.

Maternity outreach volunteers

Some of the key areas that the volunteers will be trained on include:

  • providing healthy living advice such as smoking cessation and reducing levels of obesity;
  • encouraging uptake of breastfeeding; and
  • improving access to maternity services and care.

Further information on the scheme is available here. If you are interested in taking part please contact Preeti Tyagi on 0113 249 7120 or email: preeti@shantona.co.uk.
