Tackling Tobacco: new perspectives – innovation and practice.
This event took place on Tuesday 25th September 2012 at the Leeds Met Hotel and was well received by the delegates in attendance.
Overview of event:
Tobacco control research has played a significant part in reducing the devastating impact and harm caused by tobacco, introducing indoor air laws, establishing cessation treatment or ensuring advertising bans, the development, adoption and implementation of research into practice has been critical to the progress made.
But what are the new ideas that can help us go further and faster and how do we translate these ideas into practice. This event presented an ambitious range of current tobacco related research and activities that all seek to provide new answers to today’s challenges.
The span of the programme was wide, including changing social norms, prevention, helping people to quit smoking, and considers specific innovations with children and young people, pregnant women and South Asian Communities. There was also an international dimension with work in Pakistan and Bangladesh being discussed.
Delegates had opportunities to share ideas, shape current approaches and debate how to turn innovation into practice – and improve health and reduce health inequalities.
