Leeds residents cook up a tasty dish with Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food

Leeds residents cook up a tasty dish with Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food
07 June 2011
Residents showed off their cooking skills at a ‘Pizzarama Pass it on’ cooking event on Friday 3 June, which was held in conjunction with Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food Leeds. Pizza making, fruit tasting and fun games were on offer for families at Middleton Methodist Church.

The event was organised by NHS Leeds, Extended Schools Services and Health For All.

Emma Strachan, Health improvement Specialist (Food) for NHS Leeds said: “The event was a great success and allowed families from Middleton who have used the Ministry of Food in Leeds to share their experiences with their community and pass on the skills they’d learnt at the centre. At the event, a pizza recipe was passed on to everyone who attended and together we made over 90 pizzas. Our aim was to show people how easy and healthier it is to cook family favourites such as pizza from scratch, and how all the family members can play a role.”

Katie Phillips, a student at St Philip’s Catholic School said: “I really enjoyed making the pizzas and I could do it again any time. I learnt how many calories are in certain foods and it really surprised me.”

The Ministry of Food Leeds offers a ten week cooking skills programme which can teach anyone basic cooking skills from boiling an egg to making a traditional Yorkshire roast dinner.
