Health and money awareness day supports residents to maintain a healthy balance

Health and money awareness day supports residents to maintain a healthy balance
15 August 2011
A Health and Money Awareness Day is being held in Burmnatofts on Thursday 25 August, giving people support on healthy living and budget management.

NHS Leeds is working with a number of local agencies to help local people find out how they can stay stress free by making their money go further. They will also get tips on staying healthy on a tight budget as well getting their hands on free healthy food during the day.

The Health and Money Awareness Day will offer advice to local residents about how they can save their money, by providing them with money saving goody bags and recipes for healthy meals that can be prepared on a budget as well as advice on money management. Those attending the event will also have a chance to make a money box to help them with future money saving efforts.

Burmantofts Health Improvement Group will also give local residents the opportunity to join in fun activities including entering the group’s logo competition and face painting for children. Anyone opening a Leeds Credit Union account on the day will not have to pay the usual £5 joining fee. Credit unions are non profit making financial co-operatives, offering their members an easy and convenient place to save their money and they also provide low cost loans to members.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Reverend Alan Taylor, says: “I think it is fantastic that local people will be able to have the chance to learn about how to keep fit and healthy, and use their money wisely. I am looking forward to attending the event and meeting local people.”

Local organisations supporting the event include Leeds City Council, Leeds City Credit Union, East North East Homes Leeds, Burmantofts Senior Action, Touchstone, and Ebor Gardens Advice Centre. The event will officially be opened by the Lord Mayor of Leeds.

The Health and Money Awareness Day will take place on Thursday 25 August 2011 from 11am until 2pm. The event is being held at 75 Lincoln Green Road LS9 7SR (outside Freshways across from precinct).
