This Valentine’s pharmacies in Leeds are offering young people (aged 16-25) the chance to enter a competition giving them an exclusive meet and greet with pop star Pixie Lott.
The campaign is being organised by NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds, Leeds Pharmaceutical Committee and Radio Aire.
Pharmacists are encouraging young people in Leeds (16-25) to take a free Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea test this Valentine’s, as part of a campaign being rolled out from 6 February.
The campaign aims to highlight the risks of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It will highlight how simple steps such as using condoms and being regularly tested can prevent the spread of STIs.
Pharmacists in Leeds will be handing out Valentine’s Cards to customers aged 16-25 which will include information on how they can have a free Chlamydia test and details on the exclusive competition.
To be in with the chance to win a meet and greet with Pixie Lott and exclusive signed merchandise, young people are being encouraged to pick up a Valentine’s card from their pharmacist or visit www.radioaire.com/love
Owen Brigstock-Barron, Health Improvement Specialist - Sexual Health (Young People) for NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds, says: “We are really excited about this campaign, as it is a fantastic opportunity to make sure that young people stay safe this Valentine’s.
“In February and March we often have an increase in the number of young people accessing emergency contraception and STI testing services after Valentines. Whilst it is brilliant that people are using sexual health services we want to make sure that young people have the skills, resources and knowledge to protect themselves.
““Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) in under 25’s The infection; which is treatable through a course of antibiotics, can be prevented by using a condom and avoiding unprotected sex.
“To take part in the competition all people need to do is visit their local pharmacy for more information or visit www.radioaire.com/love.”
